Course Description:
Honors Algebra I will build on the foundation of basic algebra or pre-algebra coursework so that the student will be able to solve increasingly complex problems. It is assumed that each student is planning on taking Pre-Calculus or Statistics/Trigonometry in high school, and has aspirations for college or technical training beyond high school.

This class is a study of the language, concepts, and techniques of algebra that will prepare students to approach and solve problems following a logical succession of steps. Students will be asked to think critically and extensively about what is being taught. Skills taught in the course lay groundwork for upper level math and science courses and have practical uses.

By the end of the course, students will be able to use all of the knowledge necessary to answer and of the topics covered in the Algebra I End-of-Instruction Test according to the test blueprint. Some of the topics to be covered, but not limited to, are as follows.

Solve equations and inequalities, graph linear equations and inequalities, quadratic
equations and inequalities use the laws of exponents to write expressions, simple
polynomials, and simplify radicals, use formulas that incorporate order of operations along with simplifying techniques, determine whether relations are functions, and describe domain and range.
