English IV

Keep Calm British

Course Description and Content

This course provides a survey of British Literature studied according to time periods. Students will read and experience the differing representative genres from each time period. They will also be responsible for attaining a historical foundation and an understanding of the prevailing influences and attitudes that affected the movements that produced the works of a particular age. Students will create and maintain a portfolio/notebook with work done for each time period.

In addition to the literature portion of the course, there will also be a focus placed on a personal development of a variety of writing styles and modes, including a research paper produced during the 2nd 9 weeks.

And finally, students will receive intense vocabulary instruction and tests on a weekly basis throughout the year. Students will also practice and prepare for the English and Reading portions of the ACT test.
