The Elgin High School robotics team traveled to Sapulpa, Oklahoma to compete in the regional qualifier in the First Robotics, First Tech Challenge.  Program Advisor, John Magness was thrilled with the outcome, as the team not only won the competition, but they also received the prestigious Rockwell Collins Innovate Award.

By winning the qualifier competition, Elgin is now eligible to compete at the Regional Championship on March 2nd, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma.  Elgin Robotics Team members are Dereck Segarra, Jeremy Burgess, Advisor Mr. Magness, and Tyler Hightower.

The surprise of the day came when the Elgin team was awarded the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award.  There are several strict qualifications for this award:  robot must be elegant and unique in its design, the creative component must work reliably, the team must submit an Engineering Notebook, the robot must  be stable, robust, and controllable, and the design must be efficient and consistent with the team’s plan and strategy.

Congratulations to these young men for these excellent honors!
